You’ve probably heard of Sudoku at least once in your lifetime. Most people understand the tricks, but some beginners don’t. So, how to play Sudoku, and what are its tricks?
The Basic Rules
The famous Sudoku has already evolved into different sizes, methods to solve, and even different rules. So, what are the basic rules of it? Well, for 9 x 9 puzzles, you need to have 1-9 in every row, column, and 3 x 3 grid, and can’t overlap the numbers. The image below is an example.
So, how about the tricks?
Well, you’ve already known some by the rules, right? But of course, we will talk about that. The most basic trick everyone knows is don’t guess. If you guess a number to match, especially when the available margin is large, you will get wrong. So, that wastes time as you need to try again.
Also, look for clues like occupied grids. In KenKen Puzzle, there is even some arithmetic evidence of what you need to insert. Also, we can take some notes about which number you’re going to write in the grids. For instance, if 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 are occupied in the row, you should write 1 and 9 in each of the empty grids. However, before you write these integers, look for hints that can reject one of them. For instance, if 1 is present in the same 3 x 3 grid, the answer will be 9.
Moreover, if you’re sure that a few of the numbers will be occupied, don’t write these in the unoccupied space. This will result in the game being jammed!
Always think twice before you insert a number and double-check afterward. That action ensures that no mistakes appear in the Sudoku, and you finish that more quickly.
More Knowledge about Sudoku
Nowadays, other than the classic 9 x 9 Sudoku, there are already many types of them like KenKen Puzzles, which requires arithmetic operations. Also, it comes in different sizes. Some are as small as 3 x 3, and you can theoretically solve a 64 x 64 puzzle! Moreover, some games need you not to overlap the numbers in every large grid isolated by thick lines!
According to an OEIS3 sequence, a classic Sudoku has as many as 6670903752021072936960 solutions! But, consider how many random combinations with the same group of grids can have!
